Once cold winter evening, a black stray cat was walking the side way. The animal was hated for its appearance. His fur was dirty, had some wounds, but the most attention making part of the cat was its tail, it was half cut off. But the cat kept on wagging it proudly as he gazed up into the sky from time to time. He wandered around for days feeling that cold snow falling on its fur, those gazes directed at it. Sometimes kids and teenagers mercilessly threw rocks at it which made the poor black cat escape into the darkness once again. It was like that since the very beginning.

The cat used to be as alone as that, the daily routine repeated, getting yelled at for stealing a tiny bit of fish, getting shun away with rocks. But it wanted to be that way, he couldn't even imagine or get bothered about consideration of others. But then one day a fateful meeting occurred. A boy with a backpack and paint-stained clothing approached the cat. His ginger hair covered those kind eyes that were targeted at him. A painter? Get away from me...  The boy picked up the cat gently and petted it saying, "Good evenin', little one... We're quite the same, you and I...". The black cat hissed at the young painter struggling desperately to escape. It ran away from the painter leaving few scratches on his face. The lonely boy sighed and started to follow up.

All the cat wanted is to go to his usual world of loneliness. But the red head kept on following it quite close. The animal tried speeding up while it was thinking about how it could trust the boy. How to accept kindness? What is warmth? I need to run and run! In the end the black one became exhausted and fell down on the ground. It hissed as the painter stepped closer and closer but it go taken away by him anyway.

A day passed... Week... Month.. Another month... The black one slowly started to acknowledge other one's kindness and understand that feeling. From day to day the cat got taken good care of by those generous hands of the painter. But every evening both of them sat by the window. The painter sketched various things, but as long as his friend was besides him the only thing he drew was that black cat. On the very first drawing of the cat he scribbled "Holy night". As he finished each one of them he threw the paper on the ground. Holy night looked at them questioning what's with the painter. But he really adored him. Each night they slept snuggling into each other.

But then one year passed since they've met. it was their second winter together.

And probably last one...

That day, everything went as usual, they played, walked around, but there was something different about the painter. He wasn't laughing so much, he wasn't as cheerful as usual... Holy night followed him everywhere. As the darkness set in and the time to draw came they went to the window as usual. Right then when the boy wanted to sit down he stumbled and fell down. Heavily breathing he slid down the wall carefully. He picked up a pencil and a sheet of paper. Quickly scribbling something that the cat couldn't see he said, "Run! Run! Take this to the girl who awaits me coming home.". His hands were shaking, "I-I abandoned her to chase my dream... The boy knew that it was his last moments of life. He was ill before but tried to look as happy as usual in front of his only friend besides. He fell ill because he couldn't even afford bread, he had to steal it and mostly it was unsuccessful.

I'll make you last wish come true for the time you've spent with me.

The cat did as told. He snatched the letter from his friend's hand. He quickly dashed out leaving his only friend behind. Just don't leave me...  The cat wished for that over and over again as it ran faster and faster. It dashed trough the crowd, ran trough the center of the city where kids threw rocks at him. The animal stumbled. One of the rocks hit its head. He could hear them chanting, "Servant of devil! Servant of devil!" Hissing at the kids, Holy night continued his journey. As he escaped the city dashing trough snowy roads and hills he became tired. I'm not falling down... NOT NOW! My name won't be taken away! I am Holy night! I'll run as far as I'll have to!

He ran for a little longer. Passing a mountain he spotted a small city. He could feel the person's that he needs to see presence. Already tired and wounded so much that he could barely move, Holy night made his move with those soaring muscles. Sprinting for a bit more the cat finally reached the place. This is it! I found it! Exhausted and tired it approached the girl. She glared at the wounded one with a worried glare. "You want me to read it?" she asked as she took the letter out of the cat's mouth. The girl covered her mouth not to let out a sound, she began crying. Dropping the letter she picked up the cat and went to her garden just behind her house. She took a shovel from the storage house and went to the farthest corner of the garden.

. . .

She buried the HOLY KNIGHT.

This little creation of mine is based on a song my Bump of Chicken called K. Basically it's just that video in text but... Ugh... Whatever. I tried.
